Kitchen Hack: Quickly Hulling Strawberries | Tuesday’s Tip of the Day!
As strawberries start to make a sweet comeback at our local farmer’s markets and u-picks become the weekend destination, it’s only appropriate that I share two of my favorite kitchen hacks when it comes to hulling strawberries.
1. Using a Grapefruit Spoon or Melon Baller: Use the sharp “teeth” of the spoon to simply scoop and remove the stem. Yes, it’s as easy as that.
2. Using a Straw: That’s right, that same straw that helps quench your thirst, can be used to hull your strawberries. Simply insert the straw at the bottom center tip of your strawberry leading its way straight toward the top stem. Push through the top, center of the stem, and if aligned correctly, the straw will push the stem right out the top.
