Cutting Boards
With countless cutting boards on the market, choosing the perfect one for your home can be challenging. Here is a quick overview of some of my favorites and also one I would stay away from!
Avoid:
- Glass: They dull your knife blade, are slippery and could easily break during cleanup. Plus, they are hard to store!
Consider:
- Bamboo: One of my favorites although they need some TLC. Consider purchasing some type of wood oil to hydrate the wood once a week which will keep the cutting board at its’ prime. Bamboo boards are pricy but they will last a lifetime if used correctly.
- Wood: Similar to bamboo in the sense that they take a little extra care and cannot run through the dishwasher, they will last forever if taken care of and are easy on your knives. My personal favorite brand is Epicurean as they are wood based but dishwasher safe. They come in dozens of sizes and some even have the rubber edges to keep them from sliding on your countertop.
- Plastic: Great for dealing with raw proteins as they can go straight in the dishwasher. They are inexpensive which is why they are a common and popular choice but porous, so keep an eye on them and replace when needed.
Just like selecting a knife, it’s important that the cutting board works for you, your kitchen and counterspace.
