Wednesday’s In the Know: Fall Market Finds
Now that we have officially traded in our flip flops for leaf kicking boots, I felt that it was appropriate to also speak to trading in summer veggies and fruits with those of fall’s harvest. Of course, as you have heard me say before, cooking in season is not only less expensive because items are more readily available, but they are also fresher and taste better because they are at their absolute prime! Let’s take a look at some of our all-star winning fall veggies!
Pumpkins
Squash: Acorn, Butternut, etc.
Cabbages: Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Broccoli Rabe or Broccolini
Sweet Potatoes and Yams
Turnips
Beets
Kale
Artichokes (just starting)
Apples
Pears (including Asian Pears!)
Cranberries
Chicory
Fennel
Figs
Garlic
Grapes
Green Beans
Kohlrabi
Endive
Kumquats
Pomegranates
Quince
Radishes
…for starters
Whichever you choose and however you decide to cook with them, I encourage you to do your research, ask others for input and suggestions and most of all, have fun with it!
