Brown Butter Rice Krispy Treats
Brown Butter Rice Krispy Treats
Whenever I make rice krispy treats, I cannot help but remember all the batches my mom and I made for school fundraisers. They were always a big seller because quite frankly, who would say no to freshly made sweets. To this day, I still cannot resist a freshly made rice krispy treat, especially when they are made with brown butter. Maybe it’s because of the flashback down memory lane, or simply because they are just that good!
Yield: 12 large servings
Oven: N/A
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
1 stick (8 tablespoons or 4-ounces) unsalted butter
2, 10 1/2-ounce bags miniature marshmallows
8 cups rice krispy cereal, like Kellogg’s
Method:
1. Spray or butter a 9x13-inch baking dish and set to the side.
2. In a large nonstick saucepan over medium heat, add butter and allow to melt. Once melted, while occasionally swiveling pan, allow butter to cook until nutty in fragrant and light caramel in color, approximately 4 additional minutes. Add marshmallows and using a wooden spoon or cooking spatula, stir until completely melted and smooth.
3. Remove from heat and using a wooden spoon or spatula, add cereal to marshmallow mixture and stir until well coated and fully incorporated.
4. Transfer mixture to the prepared 9x13-inch baking dish and using wax paper or a buttered spatula, firmly press down. Leave uncovered at room temperature until cool.
5. Best served same day or kept in an airtight container.
Kitchen Note: If time is of the essence and brown butter is out of the question, simply add the marshmallows right after the butter melts to save an additional 4 minutes.
