Peanut Sauce
Peanut Sauce
One of my favorite sauces for chicken (and plain white rice for that matter) is peanut sauce because of its velvety texture, nutty flavor profile and sweet finish. This recipe is a perfect combination making for a great accompaniment to any dish!
Yield: 2/3 cups
Oven: N/A
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar – see kitchen note
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 teaspoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter – see kitchen note
2 teaspoons lime juice, from approximately one half lime
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
water, as needed to thin consistency
coconut milk, optional
Method:
1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add brown sugar, sesame oil, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, peanut butter, lime juice, garlic powder and ginger powder.
2. While occasionally whisking, combine until smooth, approximately 2 minutes. If a thinner and more “mellow” version is desired, add a splash of coconut milk.
3. Serve over or on the side of your favorite protein, like my personal favorite, chicken skewers!
Kitchen Note: For a sweeter version, add more brown sugar.
Reduced-fat peanut butter can also be used.
