Mulled Wine with Cider
Mulled Wine with Cider
With the cool crisp air and family and friends in constant rotation at home throughout the holidays, having a steaming pot of mulled wine with cider at the ready is a must! It’s fruity without being overly sweet and will warm you to the core in no time.
Yield: 6 cups
Oven: N/A
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
1 (750ml) bottle red wine, like Cabernet Sauvignon
4 cups apple cider
1 cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon whole cloves, place in spice catcher/holder
2 small oranges, quartered then cut in half
Method:
1. In a large pot over low – medium heat, add wine, apple cider, cinnamon stick, and cloves.
2. Bring to a boil then reduce to low. Allow to simmer, while occasionally stirring, for 15 – 20 minutes and flavors have fully developed.
3. Ladle mulled wine with a few pieces of orange to finish. For a little “kick,” see the Kitchen Note below. Note: Do not serve spices as they are not edible.
Kitchen Note: Brandy gives the mulled wine a nice “kick.” If desired, add a splash to each glass right before serving.
